指導スタイル

I have over six years of experience teaching academic and practical English, as well as an extensive portfolio of academic, business, and creative writing. As a writer and language teacher, I believe that rigorous practice in reading and writing is fundamental to a student's ability to improve their target language skills and succeed in their careers. Speaking and listening abilities can develop naturally through immersion in conversation, but a student who does not train their reading and writing ability will eventually plateau. I am here to help you go beyond the plateau and back on the journey upwards through conversation on complex texts and extensive intensive writing practice.

My background is primarily in academic and creative writing, as these were the focuses of my master's degree. However, I value clear and concise writing in all forms. Writing has the ability simplify and clarify communication, an invaluable ability for any professional navigating any stage of their career. Speech can be misheard and misunderstood, but through my guidance, I will help you construct a simple, clear record of your thoughts, be it through emails to colleagues, groundbreaking academic research papers, or essays for your teachers. I am here to help you find your voice in your field, no matter what it is.

ビジネス経験

My career began with teaching English composition to university students in the United States. These courses had a primary focus on writing academic essays, but more than that, they were about interpreting the complex world around us. In a world as fast paced and rapidly changing as ours, a primary objective of my syllabus was to help my students develop media literacy and engage with all forms of modern communication. This of course included traditional analysis of literary texts and research papers, but I also emphasized public speaking through live presentations, podcasts, blogs, and even video. I am determined to help you find your voice in the best format for your needs and career, be that in a traditional company or academic structure, or in revolutionary new methods of expression.

My career has seen me publish novels, write daily news articles for specialty websites, and engage in high quality customer service. But since coming to Japan three years ago, I’ve continued to develop my skills as a language teacher in both public schools and private for-profit businesses. These experiences and my own studies in Japanese have given me insight into challenges people face not only using a new language but adapting to a new cultural environment. As such, I am determined to help you be successful and feel comfortable in whatever culture you find yourself in.

自己紹介

Despite my over six-year career as a teacher, I consider myself a writer first and foremost. It’s this love of the written word that I bring to all of my classes. An old English cliché is “those who can’t do, teach,” but I want my students to feel confident that their teacher practices what he preaches in both his writing and language learning.

I want my students to not only grow professionally, but personally, by facilitating a curiosity about the world and a love of learning new things. No matter our age or what stage in our career we are at, there is always something new to see and experience. In my personal and professional life, I strive to always move forward. That excitement for new challenges and opportunities is something I want all of my students to feel both in my class and in their everyday lives.

英語力に自信がない方ご安心ください!日本語相談可能。日本語勉強の経験ありので日本語と英語の違いを聞いてもいいです。私の教え方はゆとりを持って教えることを主軸にしています。日本語の質問と言葉翻訳でもいいです。
With that said, for the sake of your own development, it is best to maximize your exposure and effort in English, so I highly encourage you to try asking questions in English and using your own words and ability, both in conversation with me and in your homework. Mistakes are how we all learn.
